Default Sorrow's Furnace?

Hello,

I finally gathered all the material I need to hatch my Black Moa Chick. The final step requires me to go to sorrow's furnace & get hit by sorrows flame. I have been procastinating on this because I am afraid its going to turn into another FoW incident where I end up in the instance for 4-5 hours. It looks like there are along of quests I need to do beforehand in that area before the end boss spawns.

I guess my questions are:

1. How long does it take to clear Sorrow's Furnace?

2. Is it like FoW where if your party dies you are returned to outpost?

3. Any recommendations/advice about the area before I go. I have looked up info on the wiki, so I have a pretty general grasp of the area.

The difference with Sorrow's Furnace is that all the quests don't have to be done at the same time.

There are 4 main quests (under the main, overarching quest "To Sorrow's Furnace") and you can do them in any order and at any time. Do Kilroy's quest today, Galen's tomorrow and the others when you feel like it.

Or just hook up with someone who has the fifth and final quest active.

As for party makeup, just go with a full team of usual heroes. I generally go with the old fashioned Sab's 3 necros, plus a pair of mesmers, a monk and pick the last one at random.

Dying, by itself, doesn't get you kicked out of SF - failing quests does. Don't let important NPCs die.

I didn't think you could do the quests together? The main ones anyway.

To the OP, there's only one quest that's really hard and that's High Priest Alkar's Unspeakable, Unknowable, and that's because you need to split.

Last time I did this, I left my heroes with Alkar and did the other part of the quest with a Spirit Spam build. I think I brought a healer with me (just make sure your healer (or up to 3 heroes) are at positions 2-4 in the party list, use the party all flag, then flag the heroes you want to follow you and then double click on the individual hero flag under the compass to cancel the flag. Now your other heroes will stay in place and your healer will follow you around without having to constantly reflag them.)

True, BladeDVD, you can't complete them at the same time.

As for how long each quest will take you (which depends on numerous factors of course) I'd say 45-90 minutes for each quest?

You can also go into SF without any quest to get a feel for the area and to farm bosses for their greens.

I am sure I could take you down without fuss, so you can skip the minor quests.

While you're at it, don't just accomplish your goal of the BMC and leave. Defeat the final boss too, because Sorrow's Furnace gives you a statue in the HoM.

Snograt means its like slavers where each level can be done independently except last boss.Sorrows is same where you can take any of the quest and do them in sucession or 1 a day without the worry of having to do it all in 1 big go.
I did sorrows first time on mesmer and before hero update and weirdly i found it easy - tried on sin next and it was a lot harder even tho i had exactly same heros and hench.
A gd tip ( should be no1 on tips list ) is before you do sorrows ( or any other elite area ) is go on wiki and guru and check out what is there , what the quests do and who you will face - that way each quest you can be prepared for and you can get correct builds/setup.That does save a lot of deaths and time is well spent.

The reason I asked is that I did this recently on a newish ele and I found it a bit irritating to have to go to each dwarf and lead them back to SF. Every time you exit SF the foes all reset and you have to fight to the dwarf and then run back. Or leave from the War Camp, fight to the dwarf and then fight to SF. Oh, and then if you forget to make sure they are near the entrance to SF before you go in, you have to go back out and fight to them and bring them back again. Made that mistake once. Grr.

I wish it were like DOA, then I could have just kept going on from one quest to the next without all the extra fighting (which wasn't hard, just tedious) to go and get each dwarf to activate the next quest.

Having said all that, SF is still pretty cool and I would second Drevin's suggestion to do the content and finish the quest. Not just for the statue (which is nice) but for the enjoyment of the dungeon.

Yes, it's a pain in the bum, but it's better than being in FoW or UW and getting kicked out of the area just for one teensy, weensy wipe.

if you are just looking to hatch the lil one...find someone with the final quest (unless you want the statue)...there are usually people who have it and are willing to bring someone along for just that part. (try either pugs and groupings or serviced offered sections).
